DIY: Celebrity Esthetician Joanna Vargas's Pumpkin-Infused Face Mask

Hello Glow

Though there's a time and place for pumpkin spice, by this point in the season, the flavor already feels a touch passГ©. It's there taunting us at our favorite latte joints, it nuzzles its way into our pastries, and it's even made its way into hair color trends and beauty products. And while we love ourselves a small (okay, generous) slice of pie or even an occasional PSL, do we really need to slather it all over our face via masks and creams?

Actually, yes. In fact, celebrity esthetician Joanna Vargas highly recommends it. And with a clientele that includes Emma Roberts, Karlie Kloss, and Jessica Alba (to name few), we believe her. Naturally infused with skin-enhancing agents like zinc, AHAs, exfoliating enzymes, and vitamins C and E, Vargas's homemade mask will brighten and nourish skin from the inside out, and it couldn't be easier to whip up in our kitchens. What You'll Need:

  • 1/2 oz. canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 oz. sweet potato
  • 1 tsp. honey (for optimum brightening, try raw manuka honey)
  • 1 tbsp. plain Greek yogurt
  • Pinch ofВ cinnamon

  • Mix ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Apply to damp skin, and leave on for 10 minutes. (We suggest wine and Lifetime as companions while you wait.)
  • Rinse off with lukewarm water and a muslin cloth.
  • Repeat weekly.

In addition to the surplus of vitamins and minerals from the pumpkin and sweet potato, both honey and cinnamon have antibacterial properties that will help prevent breakouts and maintain skin's clarity. Plus, according to Vargas, the lactic acid in the Greek yogurt soothes and smooths dry skin while helping reduce the appearance of pores and wrinkles.
