9 Buzzy Makeup Products We Predict Will Be Best Sellers in 2019

I wouldn't go so far as to say being a beauty editor is like being a scientist, but we do have a few things in common: In addition toВ conducting experiments with cosmetic formulas to determine which ones you should actually buy, it's also part of our job to make educated guesses,В hypotheses, if you will, about which products and trends will dominate the future of the beauty industry.

We've collected a lot of data over the course of 2018 regardingВ which ones are gimmicks and which are going to stick around-and that analysis had led us to this list of makeup products we think are going to take over the beauty market in 2019. Interested in Byrdie's predictions about which highlighters, lip products, foundations, and more are going to be best sellers in 2019? Mark our words: We're pretty confident it's going to be the following nine.В

1. Plumping Lip Gloss

While 2016 was the year of the lip injection (thanks, Kylie), 2019 will be the year of the markedly less invasive lip plumping gloss. Team Byrdie predicts more and more makeup brands will continue to pounce on the pout-plumping market, especially since glossy finishes are going nowhere fast. So far, Byrdie's resident lip-plumper aficionado, assistant editor Erin, thinks Australian cosmetics brand ModelCo makes the most effective lip-enhancing gloss on the market. But stay tuned for 2019.

2. Skincare-Highlighter Hybrids

Cream and stick highlighters with dewy, sheer finishes eclipsed shimmers and glitters in 2018. Next year, we expect to see this product trend continue, but with added skincare benefits. We've noticed beauty brands both new and classic start to launch highlighters with extra skin-loving ingredients like SPF, vitamin C, and sodium hyaluronate, and we predict more highlighters like them will hit the market in 2019.

3. Clear Brow Gel

We recently spoke to a panel of celebrity makeup artists about 2019 eyebrow trends, and they all agreed that down-to-earth browsВ will be en vogue next year. That means goodbye to the heavily sculpted Instagram arch and hello to fluffy, brushed-up, feathered brows without a lot of visible product. For this reason, we foresee low-maintenance products like clear gel dominating the brow market next year.

4. Jelly Makeup

"Jelly" makeup textures-from eye shadows to highlighters to primers-have been bubbling up in the market lately, mostly spilling over from what's trending in the Korean beauty space. These gel-like textures, as opposed to traditional creams, offer dewy finishes and less creasing without compromising staying power or pigment.

5. Lip + Cheek + Eye Stains

Multitasking makeup, natural finishes, and plant-based nontoxic formulas are all beauty trends we'reВ seeing for 2019. Put them all together and you get the following tints and stains, which you can easily apply with your fingers and use all over your face (eyes, lips, cheeks) for aВ subtle monochromatic flush of color. Noto Botanics and Burt's BeesВ are the brands behind our favorite all-natural tints as of late.

6. Multitasking Foundation

As beauty consumers become more and more savvy about ingredients, another makeup item we foresee merging with skincare is the foundation category. Brands across the market are releasing face makeup packed with added benefits, like Urban Decay's vegan One and Done foundation, which is formulated with peptides, brighteners, and SPF 20, and KosГҐs's Tinted Face Oil, which is like a foundation and a hydrating skin elixir in one.

7. CBD-Infused Makeup

CBD-infused beauty blew the hell up in 2018, and though some people thought it was just a fluke, we see it continuing into 2019, including the makeup category. Research shows that CBD offers a number of antioxidant, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory benefits, which can benefit your skin, brows, and lashes. So expect to see an expansion in CBD mascaras, brow gels, lip glosses, and other makeup products, taking after Cocokind's CBD highlighters and Milk Makeup's Kush collection.

8. Eye Glosses and Toppers

Using lip product-esque finishes on your eyes (like glosses and tints) began having a major moment in 2019, and because they're so damn pretty, we see them sticking around. Makeup brands Milani, Stila, and Flesh all came out with gorgeous eye glosses in 2018; we've also recently discovered that Fenty's Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizers work even better on your eyes.

9. "Filter" Primers

Re-creating the look of a Snapchat lens or Facetuned version of yourself IRL is going to continue to lead beauty consumers' purchasing choices in 2019. The recent launch of products like FarsГЎli's aptly named Skintune primer serum and other blurring, glow-inducing products you can apply under or mix with your foundation to look filtered is a sign of more to come.
